The domed Reading Room at the State Library of Victoria in Melbourne, Australia was built in 1913 and its architecture was inspired by the British Museum in London and the Library of Congress in Washington, DC. The octagonal space includes a first floor reading level and four gallery levels and was built to house over a million books and up to 600 occupants. The beautiful domed ceiling is 114 feet tall and was the largest dome in the world at the time it was completed. Tour around this historic library, and check out its unique shape in floor plan view!
The State Library of Victoria celebrated its 160th birthday in 2016 by hosting Melbourne Music Week (MMW). Melbourne's world-renowned music scene came together for the 9-day event in November, and featured over 110 events and 240 artists at the iconic library.
