Matterport adds scanning mode for Pro3 scanner that captures high-density, high-resolution point clouds

The Pro3 High Density Scanning feature is now available through a software update and is available in beta to all Pro3 users. This enables you to capture higher fidelity scan data and more efficiently model using point cloud data.

Pro 3 with point cloud (JP)

Sunnyvale, Calif.-based Matterport, Inc. (Nasdaq: MTTR) today announced new high-density scanning capabilities with its revolutionary Pro3 scanner. Currently available in beta, high-density scanning further simplifies as-built modeling, streamlining workflows, minimizing errors and shortening project times. With this technology, Matterport further strengthens its position as a provider of superior point cloud data and high-quality digital twins in a more cost-effective manner. "As-built" is typically rendered in the form of a point cloud file and serves as the basis for creating a Building Information Model (BIM) used for facility management, design and construction.

High-density scanning enables Matterport Pro3 to capture over 5 million distance data points per scan, six times more dense than Pro3's standard scanning mode. This technological leap forward enables engineers to capture the finest details and intricacies of architectural, commercial and other complex structures with precision. As-built modeling, which was previously expensive and difficult to achieve, is now easier to perform, lowering the barrier to entry.

Once a building space is scanned, customers receive high-density point cloud data in the form of an E57 file that can be imported into Autodesk Revit or other design and construction software.

By signing up for the beta, Pro3 users can choose from three density options when scanning, giving them the flexibility to adapt to their business requirements:

  • Standard Density: Scanning each location takes less than 20 seconds and captures point cloud data with 800,000 points per scan.

  • Medium Density: Scanning each location takes less than 45 seconds and produces point cloud data with 1,500,000 points per scan.

  • High density: Each scan takes less than 2 minutes and can capture 5,000,000 points per scan.

Pro3 customers can get started with high-density scanning by signing up for the beta, and our support page provides information on choosing the right point cloud density for your project needs.
