A Matterport Space, or 3D Space, is a complete three-dimensional representation of a space, which lets you “walk” through the space to experience it as if you were there.
Matterport offers an innovative end-to-end 3D media platform that allows you to easily capture, edit, and share 3D models of real-world places.
Our platform includes:
The Matterport Pro 3D Camera has a built-in WiFi network to connect to your iPad, and a built-in motor to rotate 360 degrees.
Creating a Space from a real-world property is easy:
1. Place the Matterport Pro 3D Camera in various, evenly spaced positions throughout the space. You will use the Matterport Capture app on your iPad to control the camera. When you press “Scan,” The camera will automatically rotate on its tripod, ensuring a reliable image. Each scan takes about a minute.
2. See an instant preview of your Space on your iPad as you scan.
3. When you have access to WiFi, connect your iPad to the internet and press “upload” to send the scan data to the Matterport Cloud for processing.
4. Processing is automatic and typically takes 1-2 hours. The finished Space can be shared online with a weblink, or embedded directly on a website.

The Matterport Pro 3D Camera is easy to use with little training. If you already use an iPad and have basic computer skills, using the camera will be easy.
Because we use HDR (high dynamic range) photography to balance dark and light areas of an image, no special lighting or lighting equipment is required. However, direct sunlight can interfere with data collection from the sensor, so we suggest avoiding direct sunlight when possible.
The Matterport Pro 3D Camera is warranted for one year under normal use. For warranty details, refer to the Terms of Sale.
Yes, we are always working on new innovations and advancements to help our customers get greater value from our platform and their existing Matterport Pro Cameras. These can be innovations in hardware - the technology of capturing a location; or software - the technology behind processing raw data into useful, realistic 3D Spaces that can be manipulated and utilized in a variety of ways.
By offering a SaaS solution, we are able to make frequent updates to the common infrastructure and code base that powers our customers' use of our reality capture and distribution technology. This enables us to make new functionality available to all of our customers without changing the hardware. New features and functionality are frequently backward-compatible with Spaces that have previously been created.
If you have been a customer for more than 3 weeks, you have likely already benefitted from our platform updates.
We have not announced a release date for any new hardware products. When we designed the Pro 3D Camera, we designed it to last. Since most of the power is in the software, we have worked tirelessly to upgrade the Matterport experience every month with new features and improved performance.
If we did announce new hardware, we would have a plan in place that pleases all customers.
The following items are required, but not included:
We also recommend a camera carrying bag for transportation and protection.

On average, it takes about 30-45 minutes to scan 1,000 sq.ft., so a typical 2,000 sq.ft. home can be scanned in about 60 to 90 minutes.
Is there a limit to the number of Scans in a Space?
Spaces are currently limited to a maximum of 200 scans.
For residential properties, 200 scans is sufficient to build Spaces up to approximately 10,000 square feet. The exact square footage will vary depending on the layout of the property and furniture.
How will I know where to place the camera?
You may place the camera anywhere in the space to start. You should position the next camera placement 5 – 10 feet from your first position. As you scan the property, a preview map will be displayed on your iPad. Refer to the map (see below) to see what still needs to be scanned.
Generally, 5 – 10 feet between scans is a good distance. scans that are evenly spaced throughout a property, forming a uniform grid, result in the smoothest walkthrough experience.
Yes! The Matterport Pro 3D Camera can capture exterior spaces with 360° Views. 360° Views are spherical 2D panoramic images that users can view up, down, and all around. They can be accessed directly from your 3D tour, but are not aligned with the rest of your 3D model. Because direct sunlight can interfere with 3D data collection, we recommend using 360° Views for outdoor or sunny areas. Note: some Matterport users have had success 3D scanning external spaces such as gardens and patios when there is no direct sunlight (such as at dawn or dusk). Visit our Support site for more information.
A typical capture job with 50 scans will take about 450MB of iPad storage. After you upload the scan data to the Matterport server for processing, you can delete it from your iPad.

Every Cloud Services plan comes with a subscription to the Matterport Portal (My.Matterport.com), a versatile cloud-based system for managing your 3D Spaces. In the Portal, you can view, edit, and manage all of your Spaces. You can also collaborate with colleagues and share your Spaces with others.
The number of Spaces you can host at one time depends on your service plan. We offer a variety of service plans with monthly and annual subscription options. For more information, see our comparison chart here.
“Max Spaces hosted” is the maximum number of Spaces you can keep in your account at once. You can permanently delete unneeded Spaces from your account to make room for new Spaces.
A “user” is a colleague or employee with permission to upload scan data into your account and manage existing Spaces. The number of user accounts allowed depends on your service plan. View comparison chart here.
You can use any number of cameras with your subscription.
Yes. You can manage your subscription level from our Billing Portal. Changes can must be made at least 3 business days before your next billing period to go into effect.
You can download an industry-standard OBJ file, which will contain both the 3D mesh and textures.
For a sample OBJ file, download this zip file of the Golden Gate Park Visitors’ Center.
