By using the Matterport Model API to access a spatial data library of imagery and metadata, ViewAR determines the users position based on a visual recognition, creating a persistent coordinate system. This allows a variety of AR applications to connect and interact with the physical environment.

AR Indoor Navigation with Matterport: Creating Unforgettable Digital Experiences
Guests attending museums, exhibitions and events can quickly become overwhelmed by the size of the space and the sheer number of things to explore around them.
INDOAR helps people locate the shortest path to an exhibition object or start a predefined tour of multiple objects. Compared to traditional map-based navigation systems, it offers a 3D character that guides visitors through a space and provides object-relevant information at the physical object location.
Clients, such as the Vienna Technical Museum, are using INDOAR to offer onsite visitors AR-guided tours through all 200,000 square feet of the building, enabling world's largest AR indoor navigation. Using INDOAR, the museum also offers pre-defined walkthroughs of specific topics or exhibits based on a digital twin. Interactive content related to each exhibit is provided to the user based on their location using points of interest and Mattertags.

Retail AR: Providing Customers with Location-Based Product Information
With ViewAR, retailers can provide customers with location-based product information for hundreds of products - whether they are in the store or shopping virtually through a Matterport digital twin.
Using location awareness based on visual recognition in combination with Optical Character Recognition (OCR), users can place Mattertags with correct coordinates using a text-defined rule (e.g. “Item:*”).
Pairing this feature with an API allows users to automatically fill Mattertag content, such as pricing or product information..
Industrial AR: Increasing Efficiency based on Digital Twins
ViewAR’s Industrial AR suite provides AR indoor navigation of digital twins, so businesses can gain efficiencies on the workfloor, providing step-by-step instructions and remote assistance.
By attaching physical coordinates to every POI in a digital twin, ViewAR makes it easier for users to understand their surroundings with a digital twin. Businesses can add or display IoT data to locations, so users can more easily access data on physical devices.
Within the digital twin, users can generate deep links that start a navigation to a specific point of interest or display a set of instructions that can be saved in external systems. This enables companies to integrate spatial data into enterprise IT systems like SAP or ServiceNow to better manage or operate facilities.
