The 3rd Annual Matterport Cares Week: A Recap of Serving Opportunities

Matterport Cares is our company’s volunteerism and donation program designed to support causes employees care most about. To draw attention to this sector of our organization and highlight serving opportunities, we created Matterport Cares Week, a full week designed to give Matterpeeps the ability to come together to participate in community events locally and across the globe.

Cares Week took place from July 15-20. During this time, team members helped with 11 organizations and four individual volunteer opportunities focused on providing assistance to nonprofits and causes like food banks, park clean-up initiatives, and care package creation for kids in need.

There were countless ways our team members could get involved, from individual and work groups to company-sponsored and virtual events. We wanted to make it as easy as possible for people to participate during this week, whether they were able to provide guidance on a virtual call or package food for a bank. Every person who had a hand in Matterport Cares Week was a part of something truly meaningful and positive.

“I had the great pleasure of being part of Matterport Cares and helping the community to be stronger and better,” one Matterpeep said. “I was at The Pantry Broward in Fort Lauderdale sorting fruit for seniors in need and for children living with their grandparents. It’s a very important program, and all the participants and donations have to qualify annually. I’m passionate about being part of Matterport Cares and will be happy to participate in the next round.”

Matterport Cares Week: Impact and Matterpeep Testimonials

Matterport Cares Week - SF

So, you might be wondering how this week fared. With tons of hours put in and dozens of employees volunteering, we’re happy to say it was a smashing success! In total, there were 239.5 hours volunteered. This is up from the 214 hours volunteered in 2022.

Additionally, 88 employees got involved during this week, driving projects in 10 different cities, including Chicago, San Francisco, Sunnyvale, Seattle, Fort Lauderdale, Washington DC, Denver and Lawrence. We also had projects take place in London/EMEA and Japan.

This goes to show just how important giving back is to the Matterport team.

“I am passionate about volunteer work and eagerly looking forward to giving back to my community, especially during our annual Cares Week,” one Matterpeep mentioned before the week kicked off. “This experience allows me to make a tangible difference and connect with others who share the same commitment to helping those in need. It’s a wonderful feeling to do something meaningful with your peers.”

While these numbers show the wide positive impact Matterpeeps had on their local communities, the work goes further than volunteer hours and participant numbers. Because of our unique offerings as a company, we can supply digital twins and other technical solutions that many nonprofits and organizations wouldn’t otherwise be able to obtain.

A large part of our Matterport Cares program is a new initiative, Capture for a Cause. It allows our team to scan their favorite charities for free, and then we double the match for hours spent and donate it to that charity.

Due to the nature of the work we produce as a company, we have a distinct ability to provide scans that can raise brand awareness, help train volunteers, provide proof of concept for donors, and deliver more holistic access to an organization’s services than ever before. We can also help people of all ages navigate useful technology best practices and trends that can aid in further development down the road.

Our Work Isn’t Done

While we’re ecstatic with how this year’s Care Week went, it’s not the only event that we host. Throughout the year, we provide countless chances for Matterpeeps to get involved and make a difference in their communities. We have several programs like this one throughout the year, as well as matching programs and a team toolkit available 24/7.

We offer matching company contributions of up to $400 for employee donations to qualifying charities of their choice and $10 for every employee volunteer hour for every employee that volunteers with a qualifying 501(c)(3) nonprofit.

Our team toolkit offers guidance on planning service projects and donation processes for team events, meetings, and community outreach. We want to make it as easy as possible for people to give back to causes that are near and dear to them.

We’re excited to continue making this program available each year, encouraging our team members that each and every one of them can and will leave a lasting impression. Want to see what else Matterport Cares has to offer employees and learn how to get involved? Visit our website today.
