Immersive 4D Media talks about their experience capturing Quixote Studios in West Hollywood, the premier producers of films such as “Tarzan,” “The Fugitive” and “Mars Attacks”.
Q: What inspired the 3D capture of the Quixote Studio West Hollywood location?
A: We were contacted by Quixote Studios through one of our company email campaigns to film studios. And what prompted this, well, we live in Los Angeles. It is the epicenter and heartbeat of the film world. Quixote is our dream client!
Q: What are the “must-sees” you want visitors to take away after exploring your 3D tour?
A: Hmm, the “must-sees” and take-aways, well let’s start in 1999 when the owners built Quixote Studios in West Hollywood. Purchasing the surrounding land, adding more rooms, and adding to the state-of-the-art facilities, while creating its own unique charm, I have to say that the “must-see” has to be the Common Area. This is the hub that connects everything together. Play ping-pong, order coffee, enter any stage, or have lunch in their Courtyard. It’s all connected.
Q: What’s the one thing you want visitors to take away after exploring your 3D Tour?
A: You can do it! Plan, strategize, and cross your t’s and dot your i’s! Never be intimidated by the size of your project. Planning after your first walkthrough is a must. Always be prepared.
Q: Looking at the Dollhouse, this is a pretty expansive model with indoor and outdoor areas. Did you encounter any difficulties capturing this space?
A: Once we arrived on the property at 7 am, we thought, here we go, and took a deep breath and began unloading and setting up our equipment. But then it happened. The client moved up the timeline as to which stage needed to be scanned and completed first and then the next stage to follow all before lunchtime! This completely gummed up the works! That wasn’t our plan. But as I said in my earlier answer above, you must prepare and do your homework. Communication with the client is as important, as it is with each other (co-workers). So, we put our heads together, finished mapping the project, and the client was very appreciative.
Q: What are the advantages of a 3D tour of the space compared to an in-person visit? A: Two words, Covid-19. The acceleration of creating a new digital marketing plan is as important as keeping the doors open during this pandemic. The biggest sell, besides the 4K quality walkthrough and a plethora of marketing assets, for our client, is the measuring tool. This was the tool that really sealed the deal. Viewing the 3D model on all of their smartphones and texting each other or texting each department within their production company. They were all able to take measurements and from any device. The Quixote marketing & sales department were in awe of the capabilities moving forward. It is a good day when you are able to assist a company rebrand its digital footprint!
