Virtually visit Costa Rican cultural spaces and history

Arki-Con creates a digital twin of the Museo Nacional de Costa Rica

Visits to cultural spaces and areas of learning have been limited in recent months, but museums are finding virtual solutions. The Museu Nacional de Costa Rica reached out to Arki-Con to help them open their exhibits virtually to the public with an immersive 3D experience from Matterport. Visitors can engage with the history of Costa Rica and learn about artists and traditions with the digital twin captured by Arki-Con. We reached out to Ronny Miranda Cajina, the CEO of Arki-Con, to hear how this project came to fruition.

What inspired the 3D capture of this space?

The inspiration was based on the desire to give every visitor an extraordinary journey through time with the History of Costa Rica, from the pre-Columbian period to the mid-twentieth century. We emphasized national symbols and elements. As the first country without an army or military forces, we wanted to capture this pride in the digital twin.

What sections or spaces do you want visitors to explore and why?

One of the sections that I recommend visitors experience is the colonial space, where visitors can immerse themselves in a cultural dialogue with the Costa Rican past. In addition, visitors can experience important discoveries, such as the appearance of the Virgin of Los Angeles, "La Negrita", patron saint of Costa Rica. My wish is that they carry back memories of the unique Costa Rican history and culture. Our history is rich in traditions and customs, with sets of beliefs and experiences that are inherited from one generation to another.

What are the benefits of Matterport digital twins?

One of the great benefits at this time is that it is not possible to travel to other countries. This 3D tour is an excellent tool so that digital tourism contributes to cultural activities in other countries without having to leave our homes.

Do you have any plans to capture more 3D experiences?

Of course, it is already part of my life. These technological tools have become very important in the tech environment, with them we have additional elements that are included in the virtual tours. This means that the user can have an unforgettable experience and become much more interested in the product you are discovering or offering.

The technology that Matterport puts in our hands has allowed us to present spaces or buildings to the public in a real and interactive way, allowing the experience of these properties to be perceptible and for the public to enjoy treasures of new areas, from any part of the world.
