FAQs

Purchasing

What subscription level do I need to use the Pro3?

You need to have a Professional plan or higher. Classic plans cannot use the Pro3. You need to switch to one of our current plans in order to upload Pro3 scans to your account. Just like with the Pro2, you can transfer a Pro3 model from a higher account into a Starter account. You cannot transfer a Pro3 model into any Classic account. You cannot transfer a Pro3 model into a Free account.

Returns and Warranty

What exactly can be replaced/not replaced under the warranty?

Your warranty covers the Pro3 camera, the T-Mount, and the battery. All other items, including the charging kit, tripod, dolly, door stops, backpack, and the case, are not covered under the warranty.

Connectivity

Are there minimum device specifications for my phone/tablet that I need in order to use Pro3 with the Matterport app?

For the best experience, we recommend using a device with the highest storage and processing power possible. For more information about our minimum device specifications, refer to the following support articles: What iOS Devices Are Supported? and Matterport App for Android. The Mobile Device Performance Factors support article explains what you might consider when purchasing a device to use with Matterport.

Scanning and Functionality

Can I scan outdoors with Pro3?

Yes, the Pro3 camera and software allows one single, high quality model for full-sun capture outdoors. Because Pro3 uses lidar, the sun is not an issue when scanning. This also eliminates depth issues with sunlight entering through windows and skylights indoors. If the sun is visible, we recommend pointing the lens of the camera directly at the sun for your first scan.

How accurate is Pro3?

Pro3 has an error rate of approximately 20 millimeters at a 10 meter range for raw depth output. Lidar accuracy is fairly consistent in error at all distances given a controlled environment. When you need to take measurements within the point cloud, we recommend that you take that measurement with near points (within 10m) which are more reliable and consistent. Long distance points are useful for relative ranging, such as noting that a tree is about 6 meters in front of a building, and for other non-precision related use cases. A lot of factors go into determining accuracy, depending on how you’re using the model and what kind of accuracy you’re looking for. For a deep dive into accuracy, refer to the Measurement Accuracy in Matterport Spaces support article.

How fast can I scan with Pro3?

Each 360° rotation takes less than 20 seconds. In indoor spaces, it’ll take you about as long to scan with Pro3 as it does with Pro2, because you’ll want to use a similar scan path to ensure a good navigation experience for the visitor to your space. In outdoor and extra large spaces, Pro3’s increased range can help you scan more area per hour than you could with Pro2. We recommend that you don't exceed 8 meters between scans for large, open areas where large space between scans is justified.

What is the scanning range on Pro3?

Pro3 can capture depth points at a distance of 100 meters, which is reflected in E57 files and BIM files. In processed models and other add-ons, the depth used is 20 meters per scan. This applies vertically as well (for example, atriums, cathedrals, and so on).

How high can the Pro3 scan?

The Pro3 can scan approximately 20 meters above where it's placed. If you want to capture something taller than that, we recommend using an elevated tripod.

What is the depth resolution?

Pro3 collects approximately 1.5 million range points per scan. While color images are captured, the camera is stationary and no range data is collected at this time. Also, the range points directly below the camera are filtered out because they are blocked by the camera itself.

How does the image resolution compare to Pro2?

The downloadable image resolution is the same as Pro2. However, the image sensor used in Pro3 is a higher resolution and only four camera stops are required to capture the full panorama.

How does the depth resolution compare to Pro2?

Pro2 captures entire frames of range information at a time. Pro3 captures range information one point at a time and therefore we can reference points per second with Pro3. Pro3 collects range information at a rate of 100,000 points per second. Where Pro2 captures about 4 million range points per scan, Pro3 captures about 1.5 million points per scan. It is important to consider that the Matterport vision pipeline that creates complete digital twins from scan data produces a model that is the sum of many parts, and while the initial raw scan data is important, the density of that data does not necessarily contribute to a better or worse digital twin.

Can I see a sample of an E57 file and MatterPak from the Pro3?

Here are a couple of samples: • AON Lobby Model: Matterpak (0.56 GB); E57 File (1.15 GB) • Cannery Park 2 Model: MMatterpak(1.74 GB)

How many points per square meter are included in an E57 file created from Pro3?

Pro3 E57 output has 10 points per degree vertically and 10 points per degree horizontally.

Accessories

Can I use the same accessories that I use with Pro2?

  • Backpack: Yes. You can adjust the inserts in your backpack and use it with Pro3.

  • Hard case: No. The Pro3 won't fit in the Pro2 hard case with the Pro2 foam inserts.

  • Tripod: Yes. You need a different tripod mount, but it screws into a standard tripod top with a 3/8" thread size.

  • QR clamp: No. You can't use the Pro2 QR clamp with Pro3. You must use the Pro3 tripod mount.

  • Charging cable: No. Pro3 uses an external battery charger, which requires a different cable.

Do I have to use the tripod mount included in Pro3? Can I buy a different one and use that?

You must use the Pro3 tripod mount. If you need a replacement Pro3 tripod mount, you can buy it from the Matterport website.

What are the dimensions of the Pro3 hard case?

Outer dimensions: 20.16" x 16.85" x 8.37". Inner dimensions: 18.94" x 14.51" x 7.5".

What adapters does Pro3 come with?

The camera ships with adapters that work with electrical outlets in the United States/Japan (Type-A), the United Kingdom (Type-G), the European Union (Type-C "Europlug"), and Australia (AS/NZS 3112 2 Pin).

Are there any chargers I can use in my car?

Yes, you can use a 20 volt (1.5A) USB3 charger. You can tell if the charging cradle isn’t getting enough power because the LEDs will alternate flashing 2 white lights and 2 red lights.

Battery

How long does a battery last during scanning?

A fully charged battery can handle more than 230 scans. That has let people scan spaces as large as 100,000 square feet. Some customers have scanned some very large spaces. The battery is smaller than the Pro2 battery, which is by design to make the Pro3 lighter and easier to transport. When you run out of battery power with the Pro3, you can simply swap the battery with a replacement battery, as opposed to the Pro2 where you have to stop scanning and plug it in. With a couple of extra Pro3 batteries, you can scan continuously with the Pro3 while charging the extra batteries so they're ready to swap in.

How long does it take to charge?

It takes about 2.5 hours to charge to 80% and about 3 to 3.5 hours to charge to 100%.

Does Pro3 have an auto-shutoff feature to preserve battery life?

Yes. The camera shuts off after 10 minutes of inactivity. This 10-minute timer starts after the Matterport app disconnects from the camera. If you put down your camera for a break and the app remains connected to the camera, the camera will remain on. For the best battery life, turn off the camera when it won't be in use for more than several minutes.

Can the charging cradle charge more than one battery at a time?

No. The charger can charge only one battery at a time. If you need multiple batteries to be charged at the same time, you can buy more charging kits.

General Usage

Do I need to calibrate the camera before I use it, or on an annual basis?

No. The Pro3 is fully calibrated at production time and does not need future calibration.

Can I use the camera in the rain?

No. It’s not waterproof. The camera is rated to IP43, which means it’s protected from water spray less than 60 degrees from vertical. In lay terms, if it’s misting out, you can use the camera, but should make sure to wipe it down and let it dry before putting it away. If it’s misting enough to get the mirror wet, you probably won’t get very good results because the water will interfere with the lidar functionality. It’s not guaranteed to be weather-sealed or waterproof.

Can I use the camera in a dusty environment?

No. It’s not dustproof. It’s rated IP43, which means that it’s protected from tools and small wires greater than 1 millimeter.

Can the camera go through an X-ray machine?

Yes, both Pro2 and Pro3 can go through X-ray machines.
