Accompanied by seven other tropical destinations within the archipelago of the Canary Islands, Gran Canaria is home to picturesque views and one-of-a-kind experiences. Cordial Mogan Muelle Viejo, a resort located on the shore of Las Palmas, the island’s capital, was ready to share this beauty through a larger platform.
From its charming restaurants, shops, and terraces to crystal clear waters, it’s difficult for a traditional picture to capture just how astonishing the views at Cordial Mogan Muelle Viejo are. That’s why the resort partnered with Gennari Productions to create a digital twin that would allow potential visitors to explore each part of the hotel down to the room they wanted to book.
We caught up with Alessandro Gennari, founder of Gennari Productions, to discover how he was able to use the Matterport Pro 2 to capture the features that make this hotel so unique.
What inspired the 3D capture of this space?
This space was commissioned by the owner of a hotel chain who saw Matterport's technology as an opportunity to offer their customers an immersive experience when booking their vacations by virtually visiting the room they booked. It was really interesting to scan such a large size in one project. I reached 850 photos with my Matterport Pro 2 over the course of three full days of work.
What are the “must-sees” you want visitors to explore and why?
The most exciting part to visit is the “Mirador” area, outdoors at the highest point of the scan. It took me a long time to scan the walkway — in fact, you can notice many changes in the light as you walk along the path.
What’s the one thing you want visitors to take away after exploring your 3D tour?
I hope that the model inspires visitors to visit in person, as this hotel is so fascinating and is located on a wonderful island.
What are the benefits of Matterport digital twins?
Matterport digital twins allow you to transport the magic of a wonderful place to your cell phone or computer. In our case, hotel guests can verify the quality of the purchased product, including the location of the reserved room and the real view from the terrace. So the offer is clear and transparent, and it is a commercial strength.
Do you have any plans to capture more 3D experiences?
I have specialized in scanning hotels with all rooms and all common areas and I plan to scan other hotels on the island. Some projects will exceed 215,000 square feet.
