Living life in the fast lane with a digital twin of a U.K. karting track
Getting the chance to create a virtual tour of a karting venue was an interesting new experience for British Matterport service provider, 360 Picture UK.
When Fastlane Karting in the U.K. Midlands revitalized its race track, James Hilton, owner of 360 Picture UK, couldn’t pass up the opportunity to use Matterport technology to create a digital twin of the new circuit. As an established Matterport service provider, 360 Picture UK has created a broad range of professional 3D virtual tours, from residential properties and retail spaces to education and hospitality venues.
With this project for Fastlane Karting, James and the team were able to use Matterport to bring the race circuit to life with a highly detailed digital twin of the full circuit so customers can check out every corner and feature of the track in readiness for race day.
We spoke to James to find out more about the project.
What inspired the 3D capture of this space?
We approached Fastlane Karting after they had renovated their track to see if we could create a unique digital twin for them. It’s the best karting track in the Midlands, so we thought it would turn out great, and we were right! They were impressed with the options we provided and are very pleased with the resulting 3D Matterport virtual tour.
What are the “must-sees” you want visitors to explore and why?
With this virtual model customers can walk the track to prepare themselves for an exhilarating race. Each and every corner is captured in detail so you can prepare like how real racers do.
What’s the one thing you want visitors to take away after exploring your 3D tour?
This is a rare example of a virtual tour captured for a karting track. It gets you right in on the action, so you can walk the track to choose your racing line before getting behind the wheel for your race.
What are the benefits of Matterport digital twins?
Matterport provides the detail required to make a tour like this possible. Other virtual tours just can’t create the smooth flow required to allow the viewer such an immersive experience.
Do you have any plans to capture more 3D experiences?
360 Picture UK is always interested in capturing more unusual buildings and trying out new types of projects. If you have an interesting property, we’d love to capture it using a Matterport digital twin!
