Matterport 2024 Winter Release: Automating the Future

Today, Matterport released a number of breakthrough features as part of its Winter 2024 Release, representing the latest in innovation and AI for Matterport’s Digital Twin Platform. 

When Matterport began this journey more than a decade ago, we sought to transform how the world could experience a space or place, from wherever they live or work. Our digital twin technology quickly became the industry standard for Property Marketing, enabling anybody to virtually walk through a property from anywhere in the world.

Since then, we’ve continued to evolve our platform to serve customers with diverse solutions throughout the property lifecycle, from Design and Construction to Facilities Management, creating tools that enable remote collaboration and efficiency for industries that historically relied on in-person communication to get things done. 

As we advance the next generation of our digital twins, we’re enriching our platform with intelligent features and insights designed to help you better understand and make decisions about your properties - whether you’re listing a new home for sale, managing a construction site, or reconfiguring a factory floor.

Matterport Property Intelligence Now Generally Available For All Matterport Users

Matterport Property Intelligence is a new collection of insight-driven features, representing years of advancements in AI and data science to automatically surface detailed information about a property.

It all begins with automation—the most powerful and direct way to save you time and money. 

With Property Intelligence, Matterport users can now access vital property information instantly – from automatically calculating square footage of a space, to determining ceiling height and wall dimensions, to exporting that data to MLS listings – all from a Matterport digital twin.

On average, real estate agents spend between 30 minutes and 2 hours in Matterport models manually measuring and inserting room dimensions into Multiple Listing Service (MLS) systems. Meanwhile, contractors can spend up to 10 hours using Matterport models to capture relevant measurement data. 

Matterport users can start using the automated features of Property Intelligence at no additional charge. These features include:

Room Dimensions & Labels

Accurate room-by-room measurements are one of the most common and time-consuming requests from potential home buyers to understand whether a property suits their needs. Now when you create a Matterport digital twin, every wall in every model is automatically measured, including ceiling heights, to help you truly understand the scale of a space. Common rooms are automatically labeled, with Property Intelligence able to identify more than 20 different space types, such as kitchens, offices, bedrooms, closets and many more.

Property Layout

Instantly see the layout of your property. With one click, easily transition between 2D and 3D views of your space, including labeled room names, wall segments and more. Every room in Property Layout is fully editable with a simple, point-and-click tool to adjust walls, openings, and room names. Easily add or remove doorways and windows, move walls, or adjust rooms – with measurements updated in real-time with each change.  Read more about Property Layout in our support page.  

Property Report

All work done in Property Layout is instantly updated to the Property Report, a print-ready view of useful new property information including the layout and a complete analysis by room, floor, and total property– all of which can be seamlessly imported into a Multiple Listing Service (MLS) or used in marketing materials like a property listing flier. For Matterport customers with Professional plans and up, the Property Report can be shared and exported, while customers that have purchased access to the Matterport API can save even further time by integrating data from Property Intelligence into their every-day workflows and systems, such as Multiple Listing Services, to get the most out of their property data. For Property Marketing professionals, these enhancements provide new insight into a property’s potential, eliminating buyers’ reliance on time-consuming site visits and the extra back-and-forth between buying and selling agents. For agents, in depth data helps accelerate home sales with instant at-a-glance property overviews while saving time entering MLS data.

For Design and Construction and Facilities Management professionals, this information will help optimize the functionality of a space, from guiding development, to supporting the estimation of renovation costs, as well as evaluating properties at scale.

Introducing Showcase Plugins: Minimap, Compass, Business Card, and Quick Link

For the millions of visitors to Matterport 3D spaces every month, we're excited to introduce a new suite of features, Showcase Plugins, that make connecting and navigating even easier and more useful than ever before. 

Minimap

Contextualize your position within large spaces to navigate large areas like construction sites, commercial buildings, or vast properties more easily. The minimap can be customized by different sizes and shapes, as well as placed in any corner of the screen.

Compass

For spaces where directional context is important, the compass plugin allows viewers to navigate digital twins with even further clarity, indicating which direction is north relative to their viewpoint. This is particularly useful for construction and development when understanding elements like daylight, wind and other factors influenced by direction can provide further depth to a viewer’s understanding of a space. As with the minimap plugin, the compass is available in several styles and sizes to suit user’s preferences.

Business card

Enhance visitor experience by incorporating an expandable business card, showcasing key contact information. For example, this could include agent or brokerage details for properties on sale or lease, or the reservations desk for hotels. 

Quick Link

Add an image and a link in the corner of a digital twin for quickly and easily accessible content. This could be adding a menu to a restaurant, a booking time to reserve tickets to visit a museum, a donation button and more.

Schematic Floor Plan Enhancements

We’ve also unveiled new enhancements to our RICS-standard schematic floor plan offerings to elevate property listings, increase revenue on every job and kick-start projects with a simplified layout.  Previously only available in black and white, our popular and affordable 2D floor plans are now available with more customization options, with customers now able to access color floor plans, with or without furniture, logo customization, and language options for English, French, Spanish, German, and Italian.

Floor plans are not only a simple way to attract qualified buyers ready to make an offer, but they also save time by being directly created from a 3D tour, eliminating the need for an extra visit.

CAD File Add-On is Now Generally Available

In December, we introduced the beta for the Matterport CAD file add-on, which converts Matterport digital twin point clouds into AutoCAD-ready, 2D plans of any space. 

The Matterport CAD file add-on is now available to Professional plan customers and above, empowering users with an alternative to tedious manual documentation of as-built conditions, repeat site visits to collect missing information, and manual file tracing– saving time and resources when you need CAD files to complete and manage your projects.

Customers can choose from four different output options to serve their needs: 

• Architecture

• Interior Furniture

• Electrical

• All of Above
