Detroit People Mover

Explore This! Jump on the Detroit People Mover, a fully-automated light rail system in Michigan’s “Motor City”. The nearly three mile system operates on a single elevated track through downtown Detroit and includes 13 stations, eight of which were built into existing structures. The entire loop is only about 14 minutes in duration, but the light rail offers unobstructed views of the city and the Detroit River to its 6,500 daily riders. The interior of the two-car vehicles hasn’t changed much since operation of the system began in 1987, with a neutral color scheme, fluorescent lighting, and standard steel construction. Whether you’re taking it to “The Joe” (Joe Louis Arena) to watch the beloved Red Wings play, or commuting to the famous Buhl Building off the Financial District stop, the People Mover proves to be a valuable transportation option for all metro Detroiters.
